Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, a German (1755-1843) studied for the degree of M.D. (in general medicine) founded Homoeopathy in 1796, by slight modification of Hippo crate’s observation about like should be cured by like (Nature's law of cure). While experimenting upon himself with Cinchona bark he observed that it produced in him a paroxysm similar to that of Malaria and even got cured with the same drug in infinitesimal doses. This incident inspired him to develop the theory of Homoeopathy. In Homoeopathic system of medicine, for the treatment of any disease a drug must be chosen which is capable of producing similar symptoms ('Law of similar'). The given medicine, prepared by the process known as 'Potentisation' is reinforced with the body's own natural capacity ('vital force') to heal & achieve a gentle and lasting cure. The 'Law of similar', the theory of 'Potentisation'of drugs and the doctrine of 'vital force' are the three milestones of Homoeopathy. Drug proving in Homoeopathy is always done by testing the hidden curative power of drugs on healthy people under careful controlled conditions; this makes the system foolproof and safe. Moreover the medically active substances in remedies occur in minute amounts, making them non-toxic, with no known adverse side effects.
