- this is caused by rubbing off of cuticle or superficial layers of the skin by some rough or hard substance. An abrasion does not lead to scar, unless infected or unless the whole thickness of skin is involved. It usually heals within 2 Weeks.
Types: (a) Scratch: caused by sharp object passing across the skin e.g. nail, thorn, pin etc. (b) Graze: caused by movement of rough object in contact with skin e.g. road traffic accidents when rough road surface grazes against skin. (c) Pressure Abrasion: These are associated with bruising of the skin. Here inward pressure is more. (d) Impact Abrasion: caused by the impact of the rough object e.g. person knocked down by the motor car.
- it is a compound which contains Hydrogen and this may be replaced partially or wholly by metals to produce salts.
Types: (a) Inorganic acids - Hydrochloric, Sulphuric, Nitric (b) Organic- Carbolic, Oxalic etc. (c) Vegetable – Hydrocyanic etc.
- it is a disorder of the skin, generally starts in adolescence and is caused by the over activity of the sebaceous glands. The commonest variety is Acne vulgaris occurs mainly on face, chest and back. The sebum produced by the Glands cannot escape because the hair follicles become blocked by a keratin plug and a pustule forms with fluid leaking into the surrounding tissue. The keratin plug turns black forming the familiar blackhead. Generally it is mild but severe and chronic form may be found with infected cysts and scarring of the skin.
